Planning
As a HOPE worldwide intern working with the HOPE Youth Corps program in Kenya there were many responsibilities that had to be filled. My specific jobs included: photographer, assistant project planner and blog manager. As a photographer I was in charge of taking all photos and videos of our experience in Nairobi, Kenya. This included having my camera at all times, yet making sure I have clear consensus to take photos. As assistant project planner I volunteered to make a comprehensive program plan and combine all necessary documents for the head project planners into a single document. With this position I was involved in all conference calls pertaining to the planning of the HYC. Lastly, as the blog manager I was in charge of running a blog throughout our trip, that included photos and updates on how our trip was going. (Below is the link to the blog).
I was required to have a superior knowledge of photography, use of multimedia and an event planning background. As I am currently a student at Texas A&M University, getting my bachelors in Community Development this allowed me to qualify for this internship with my event planning studies.
Planning this HYC Kenya was a long and tedious process! This experience taught me many different lessons along the way. It taught me how to manage my time effectively to get all of my responsibilities done on time. It also taught me how to plan and manage an event efficiently. As this trip took place in Nairobi, Kenya there were many planning barriers such as communication that made the process difficult, but we had to learn how to work through the barriers and use what resources and knowledge we have at hand. I learned overall that without proper planning any program will fail. "Fail to plan, plan to fail".
